Our History

The Cornerstone founding families consists of the Brownings, Cervenkas, and Drummons families. Our families have been doing life together as friends, and schooling our combined 13 children for several years. We saw the difference educating our children together made in the lives of our families, and we wanted to provide that same opportunity to other families in this area. With many years of education experience amongst our founding families, we began to pray. After many prayers together, we felt the Lord calling us to open a school. In the fall of 2024, we stepped out in faith to follow that call. Here is the heart behind our decision...

One Chance With Our Children

In Psalm 127:3, we read that children are a heritage from the Lord. And this heritage we receive, we only get one chance to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. In just 18 years, our children enter post-secondary life, leaving the guidance and protection of the family. In Texas, students go to school 157 days per year, meaning that in a school career, children spend a total of 2,041 days (over 5.5 years!) away from home.

Men and Women of Virtue

Not only did we not want our children gone that amount of time, we wanted to give our children a classical Christian education. We want our children to seek, discover, and know what is true, good, and beautiful. We want to raise children of virtue and courage. It’s not enough for us to raise moral children who merely develop technical skills. We want to raise men and women of Christian character who reflect the truth, goodness, and beauty of God and flourish as virtuous and courageous human beings who know and trust in Jesus.

Homeschooling is Hard

So naturally and logically each of our families started to homeschool. But the grandiose idea of peaceful days with children who love learning all day, everyday, was more grandiose idea than reality. We found that homeschooling is hard, we needed support, and thus, something had to change.

A Better Way

As our families began to seek the Lord in what he would have for us in this season with young children, he began to plant the idea of starting a classical Christian collaborative school. We initially thought it would be for our families. But the Lord’s ways are not our ways. His plans were that the school would be a gift for the community. That families would be able to see the truth that children are a heritage from the Lord; they wouldn’t have to give up 5.5 of 18 years; they could give their children a classical Christian education; they could be supported in the education of their children and their family could enter a culture of discipleship.

Cornerstone Classical School

So we set out to establish a school that is true, good, and beautiful, founded on Jesus Christ, our Cornerstone - the One who is True, Good, and Beautiful. By God’s grace and for his glory, Cornerstone is the way school should be. We aren’t just a school for our kids, but for our grandkids. We aren’t just for this generation, but the next, and the next, and the next. Won’t you come and join us?
